As deep clean experts based in Alton, Hampshire, we know just how much the household cleaning aisle at your local supermarket can be a dizzying place – and not just because of the overwhelming number of options available. The cost of household cleaning products can be equally as staggering! However, rather than spending a huge sum of money on all the cleaning products you may need, you can use a few common items you may already have around the house to create your own solutions.
Here are several common, versatile items you can use instead of a hardcore chemical cleaning product:
1- To remove stains from carpets
If you’re looking for an effective, eco-friendly and cheap alternative to your brand name commercial carpet cleaner- why not give this recipe a go and follow these simple instructions for sparkling clean carpets.
Supplies:
– Baking soda
– White vinegar
– Water
– Spray bottle
– Scrub brush
– Hoover
Instructions:
1- Douse the stain with baking soda
2- In a spray bottle combine half and half blend of white vinegar and water
3- Spray the stain while the baking soda is on the carpet
4- Wait for the solution to set (we advise waiting for a couple of hours)
5- Scrub your carpet
6- Wait for the carpet to dry overnight
7- Hoover the remains off of your carpet
2- Cleaning tile and wood floors
Did you know that your sealed wooden floors and any non-porous tile (such as porcelain tiles) can be thoroughly cleaned to a sparkling shine with a little vinegar and water?
Supplies:
– White vinegar
– Water
– Spray mop, or bucket and cloth
Vinegar does have a distinctive smell, so you may wish to want to work in a well-ventilated area if possible. If the smell bothers you, try adding a few drops of essential oils. Citrus scents such as orange and lemon are especially pleasant in the kitchen and evoke a sense of ‘cleanness’ for many people.
Instructions:
1- Mix your solutions. Combine approximately one cup of white vinegar with one gallon of warm water. You can use a fraction of the solution if you’re only working on a small area, but the solution stores just fine for later use, so don’t be afraid to make the whole batch. If desired, add a drop or two of essential oil.
2- Spray and wipe your floors. Be careful not to over saturate your floors if they’re wooden.
3- Removing mildew and soap scum from your tub and shower
A shower is supposed to make you feel clean, but it’s hard to feel clean when your tub and shower are full of grime, mildew and soap scum. Fortunately, there’s an affordable effective solution.
Supplies:
– Liquid dish soap
– White vinegar
– Spray bottle
– Cleaning cloth
– Water
– Measuring cup
Instructions:
1- Heat the vinegar. In a microwave safe dish, heat a quarter cup of vinegar until its extremely hot
2- Mix your solution. Carefully add the vinegar to a spray bottle. Add in a quarter cup of liquid dish soap and carefully swirl to mix. This recipe can’t be stored so it’s a good idea to make small quantities.
3- Spray the solution to the affected surfaced
4- Wait for the solution to set. We advise around 45 minutes.
5- Rinse. Using a cloth and water, rinse the solution.
