 The ‘green’ way

Here at Bennetts we’re passionate about DIY natural cleaning methods, and in fact we’ve got just the thing for you when it comes to cleaning out your oven yourself- baking soda and vinegar! This non-harmful cleaning method ensures that there’s no chemical damages to your skin or lungs if any fumes are consumed. Perfect if you’ve got kids!

The method

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Make a paste with the baking soda and water. There’s no exact science here, just add enough baking soda to create a thick paste.
  • Remove all of the oven racks, including any pots and pans you may have in the bottom draws as the mixture can drip.
  • Spread the baking soda mixture over the entire oven, including the oven door and glass and leave it from anywhere to 20-30 minutes to overnight.
  • Once your mixture has had time to soak it’s time to get scrubbing! We recommend having a cloth and bucket nearby so that you don’t have to keep getting up to rinse.

If you find that thing’s aren’t coming off that easily, we recommend spraying some water and vinegar on the baking soda mixture and letting it sit for another 10 minutes.

  • Scrub until your hearts content. Removing all dirt and grease residue… and voila!

Now, we know that cleaning the inside of the oven is only the first step. Once you’ve achieved a sparkling clean inside, it’s time to transform your oven racks.

Cleaning the racks

Cleaning the oven racks can often be the least exciting part of your oven clean. We recommend filling a bowl with some soap and water, wetting a microfibre cloth and running it along each of the rungs on the rack. Again, no harmful chemicals have been used here so we’ve very much sticking to our ‘green’ ethos!

Once your racks are pristine clean, reassemble your oven and sit back and enjoy your masterpiece!
