If you stop to think about it, your kitchen sink is one of the hardest workhorses in your home because it’s used multiple times every day. And, as a professional cleaning company based in Alton, Hampshire, we know there’s nothing better than coming home to a sparkling clean sink after a long day at work!
Keeping your sink clean is paramount when it comes to preventing odours and smells as well as reducing germs and bacteria in your kitchen.
So, if you’re in need of a simple cleaning routine for your kitchen sink, here at Bennett’s Home Shine, we’ve got you covered.
Step 1 – act quick
If you’re guilty of using your sink and not emptying it as you go, then we’re afraid this step is aimed at you! Every time you use your sink make sure you empty it and quickly wipe it over with a damp sponge to clean up any of those obvious splashes, spills of food residue. If the water in the sink is too dirty, squirt a drop of washing up liquid onto a clean, damp sponge, wipe over the sink, then rinse and dry. This step takes less than a minute and prevents food from hardening on the sink, it also reduces the build-up of grease and grim.
Step 2- end of the day
Once you’ve used your sink for the last time, it is important to dry your sink with a tea towel or dry cloth. This step prevents moisture from laying around the sink, which is a breeding ground for bacteria. We also recommend avoiding leaving water in the sink overnight!
Step 3- once a week
Although you’re now maintaining the cleanliness of your sink daily, it is also important to set aside a bit of time each week to give it a deep clean. There are a couple options when it comes to deep cleaning your sink. For a method that is environmentally friendly and cheaper, use Bicarb Soda to bring your sink back to life. Simply empty your sink and sprinkle around some Bicarb and use a damp sponge/cloth and scrub gently. Remember to wipe around the taps and spout. Rinse and dry. Another way of achieving an intense clean is to purchase some heavy-duty kitchen sink cleaner from your local supermarket and scrub the sink and tap thoroughly.
Step 4- final step
If you’re looking to tackle the build-up of lime scale or white spots that can occur around your kitchen sink, then you definitely don’t want to miss this step. Make a mixture of one-part salt to one mart vinegar and gentle with a toothbrush (not your own of course!) get into those hard to reach places. Rinse and dry. For spots that are difficult to shift, soak some paper towel or lightweight cloth in vinegar and wrap around the area. Soak for 15 minutes and gently scrub, rinse and dry. Do be careful when it comes to using vinegar on other surfaces as it may affect the colour, so it’s always best to check with your manufacturer first.
