Along with its warmer weather and longer days, summer also brings its fair share of chores that need to be tackled. So, take advantage of those extra hours of daylight and get to work on those summer cleaning tasks to help get your home in tip top shape for the summer season.
Do you know which areas of your home may need a little extra TLC when the days heat up? If not, don’t panic, the following cleaning checklist can help you stay on top of your seasonal chores and keep those summertime blues away.
Floor cleaning
With the kids enjoying their school holidays and spending all their time in the garden, your floors are guaranteed to see a lot of extra foot traffic. That means you may have to spend a little longer than usual cleaning your floors. We recommend cleaning your floors and those ‘high traffic’ areas at least twice a week!
The key is to invest on a good quality doormat or enforce a ‘no shoes in the house’ rule to help reduce the frequency in which you have to undertake your floor cleaning duty!
Managing those stinky smells
You’ll be surprised how much the seasons heat can bring out the most pungent aromas in your kitchens bins, so, expect to be emptying those more often! Additionally, summer’s messier food items may also mean you need to ensure you wash out your bins on a weekly basis. Remember, all the fruit you put in your summer sangria may start to decompose more quickly this time of year, so make certain you know how to properly clean your skin to keep the smells from getting way out of hand!
Food spillage!
You can’t deny that one of the best things about summer is the food it brings. Ice creams, burgers and dipping sauces. The amount of summer food spillage is endless during this warm season. So, make sure you keep plenty of microfiber cloths lying around to they’re at the ready during any spillage emergency. Remember, you’ll want to tend to all spills ASAP to prevent having to scoop gloop off your counters at a later date!
Bathroom care
With the heat and humidity your bathroom will be in need of some extra seeing to this summer. So, when it comes to your bathroom cleaning your toilets should be tended to at least twice week. You’ll also want to ensure you open all windows during or after your shower to help slow down the spread of mildew.
Laundry duty
If you don’t tent to your weekly laundry duties, you’ll be surprised at the amount of towel and swimwear build up! Your washing machine and dryer will be working overtime this summer so, ensure you’re fully stocked up on laundry detergent and invest in an outdoor rack to help organise your laundry. This is a fairly easy task that older children should be able to manage, so make sure you get the whole family involved!
