Sure, we often say the most important cleaning occurs during Spring. But, did you know that in the past few years big supermarket chains are seeing their highest sales of household cleaning products in autumn? In fact, Tesco reported a 20% rise in sales of such products in September! Why you ask? Because Spring cleaning has some competition, it really is that simple!
But why is autumn cleaning so important?
With the August bank holiday just around the corner, and the beginning of the school year on the horizon, it means we finally have some time to deep clean our homes for winter. In fact, there’s just enough time to take advantage of the last of the warmer days and complete all the chores that seem almost impossible to complete in the colder season.
But remember, autumn cleaning isn’t just about your standard tidying, hoovering and organising… it’s about preparing your home for winter and ensuring you’re ahead of the game when it comes to the chilly months ahead.
As a domestic cleaning service based in Alton, Hampshire and the surrounding areas, we’ve prepared an autumn cleaning checklist to help you organise your cleaning tasks in time for winter.
In-door
You can vacuum and dust around your house until your hearts content, but I’m afraid you’re going to have to do more than that before winter settles in.
Let’s start with your furniture… due to its drying time, it’s best to tackle your upholstery first, but please bear in mind that different types of fabric require different types of maintenance. It’s always best to check your sofa cleaning guide before you start spraying god knows what on it to try and remove those stains! After all, you don’t want to be making life harder for yourself now do you?
Once your sofas look good as new, we recommend moving onto your carpets. You’d be astonished at the amount of dirt and dust your carpet accumulates during spring, and you certainly don’t want to wait a until next spring to give it a good old clean! We recommend steaming without detergent and regular hoovering to ensure your carpet is cleaned thoroughly!
Autumn is also a great time to give your dirty windows a clean, and because the weather isn’t as hot there won’t be any soapy residue and marks left on the glass. A microfibre cloth is definitely recommended for the inside of your windows.
Once you’ve tackled the basics, it’s time to move onto the bigger jobs, jobs like your kitchen!
When it comes to cleaning your kitchen, we’ve got a few simple steps and rules to follow:
- Invest in some good sink cleaner, or if you’re green like us, create your own using baking soda, salt, lemon and vinegar!
- Don’t forget your extractor hood cleaner- we recommend a home solution of baking soda, white vinegar and liquid soap to achieve the perfect grease free cooker hood.
- Oven cleaning without chemicals can be quite challenging… but it can be done! If you like avoiding commercial cleaning products like us, then a mixture of baking soda, white distilled vinegar, liquid soap and a lot of patience should do the job!
